The Tour Essex

The Tour Essex Sportive will take place on Sunday the 12th of May 2019.

We’ll guide you through many of the wonderfully road bike friendly lanes that we at SportiveUK cycle on a regular basis. Immaculate surfaces will get your wheels spinning making for an impressive average speed, but you prefer to meander you’ll enjoy the beautiful Essex countryside in full bloom.

Terrain

All routes enjoy the picturesque roads of Essex that is known for its flattish nature, however, there are a few lumpy surprises in the last 10 miles that’ll certainly get your legs pumping. You’ll then be greeted onto the the last 2km of the closed road circuit at Redbridge Cycling Centre – There are no cars here so you can really push it, maybe have a friendly race with a mate.

A distance for everyone!

Tour Essex features a 42, 72, and 110 mile choice of routes that utilise many of the same spectacular roads as a certain British stage of a famous French race.

Online pre-entry allows you to get this event in your diary and is the easiest way to secure your place. The 72 mile route  will take you further out onto the quiet countryside roads of Essex towards picturesque villages and well kept roads. The stunning route with few, but rewarding hills creates more of a challenge for those looking to feel the burn in their legs.

110 Miles
If you are looking to experience anything close to the distances those in the peloton encounter on a daily basis then this is the route for you. We’ve not pulled any punches with this route, its tough and should only be attempted by those who really want a challenge. You’ll still see some fantastic countryside but boy, will it be a test of your endurance and stamina.

The Giro will be in full swing on this date (stage 15 mountain stage), you’ll surely be fired up and raring to get out onto your bike and experience the wind in your hair and hopefully some sunshine. However, there certainly wont be any Dolomite type climbs to finish you off. The nearest you’ll come to this is roughly 5 miles from the finish where you’ll face Hoe Lane which is quite a popular hill and Strava segment. Hopefully you’ll have enough juice in the tank to get on the leader board and finish this ride like Chris Froome!

Other Information

There is a mechanic and drink stops on route where you can refill your bottles and tuck into some food to keep you going. You should however bring spare food and drink as the route is rural and may not be near shops.

We do our best to try and make sure your ride on the road runs as smoothly as possible by marking the roads clearly. If you find you have not seen a marker for a while, stop and consult your map, ask someone, or find a landmark and give us a call using the number provided on the day.

Once you complete the ride, make sure you report back to one of our team at the finish line and hand back the timing chip. We’ll make sure your time is recorded. If you do not report back, you may be presumed lost and emergency services may be called.

Wearing a helmet is compulsory. Failing to do so will result in refused entry.

Enjoy the ride! Tour de Essex
