Wow, what a great day we all had! Thanks to everyone who came along and got into the Festive Spirit! Results can be seen at http://www.sportiveuk.co.uk/santa-60-2019-results/
As we were preparing for our last event we said to ourselves “Why should we follow everyone else and stop doing events at the end of the season?”
Just because the official cycling season has finished it doesn’t mean that most of us still want to get out on the bike and keep that hard earned fitness to some degree.
We have the ride for you! The Santa 60 takes place on Sunday the 8th of December 2019, covering roads that can be thoroughly enjoyed at any time of year.
The 12 Gears of Christmas
Christmas is a wonderful time of year. A time to spend with family and friends. Unfortunately Christmas is not always conducive to bike riding, winter roads may not always be suitable and those who don’t like to ride alone might find it hard to find ride partners.
We’ve got a choice of 60 and 32 mile routes that take place on roads specifically chosen for their ride-ability at this time of year. Starting and finishing at Freeman College in Buntingford, we’ll take you through a winter wonderland of scenic Herts countryside on roads suitable for the season along with a well stocked feedstation.
32 Miles
The 32 miler is a great route for the beginner, or for those seasoned riders who just fancy an shorter day in the saddle. The 32 miler heads West like the shorter route, and then splits at east at Nasty towards further picturesque villages such as The Hadhams, Stocking Pelham, and Berden where you’ll be able to tuck into some home made flapjacks to help you in your final 10 miles. before. The 1300ft of climbing will give your legs a relatively easy ride, allowing you to explore picturesque villages and enjoy beautiful scenery.
60 Miles
This is the perfect distance for those who have had a steady season and managed to keep the miles going. With 2500ft of climbing, it’s not the hilliest of courses and will allow those wanting to stretch their distances to do so. After enjoying the many scenic views of the 32 mile route, this splits at Brent Pelham, taking you further north towards the county of Cambridgeshire through Great Chishill and then heading back south into Hertfordshire through Langley, Rickling Green and Manuden, before making that final feed stop at Berden, where you’ll be able to grab a cheese and cracker for that final push.
